The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the release of the State Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Daniel Onyishi, who was abducted on June 12, 2025, during the Democracy Day public holiday.
Onyishi was kidnapped in the early hours of the day along Oby Okoli Road, near Winners Chapel in Awka. According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the release was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
The police, working in close collaboration with sister security agencies, especially NDLEA operatives led by Zone 12 Commander Mrs. Florence Ezeonye, coordinated efforts that ensured the safe return of the NDLEA director.
Ikenga stated that Onyishi is currently in safe custody and receiving medical attention. The Commissioner of Police has briefed the Police High Command on the development and activated directives from the Inspector-General of Police to ensure that those responsible for the abduction are tracked down and brought to justice.
