Super Eagles and Udinese FC goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Peter Mbah at the Enugu State Government House on Tuesday, expressing pride in his Enugu roots and revealing plans to establish a charitable foundation and a football academy in the state. Okoye said his goal is to inspire and nurture young talents while giving back to the community that shaped him.

Governor Mbah warmly welcomed the international footballer, commending him for his achievements and his commitment to youth development. In recognition of his contributions and influence, the governor appointed Okoye as an Ambassador of Enugu State, praising him as a role model for young people, especially those in the state’s Smart Green Schools.

The governor pledged government support for Okoye’s football academy, including the provision of land for the project. He also revealed plans to upgrade the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium to FIFA standards and invited Okoye to participate in the next Enugu International Marathon.

Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to youth empowerment, Governor Mbah said the state is focused on creating platforms for talent, creativity, and excellence to flourish, positioning Enugu as a hub for national and global achievement.
