The Ebonyi State Government has successfully revived the long-moribund Ebonyi State Pipe Production Company in Ezzamgbo, marking a significant stride in Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s industrialization agenda.
The General Manager of the company, Mr. Uchenna Otuh, a legal practitioner, praised the governor’s leadership and vision, describing the revival as a testament to the administration’s commitment to economic development under the People’s Charter of Needs.
After years of inactivity, the company is now fully operational following the acquisition and installation of three new machines capable of producing a range of pipes, including PVC for wastewater, conduit pipes for electrical works, and HDPE pipes for industrial use. The facility has also been equipped with a state-of-the-art pulverization machine, allowing it to recycle production waste into raw materials, significantly reducing waste and enhancing efficiency.
Otuh highlighted the impact of the company’s return on the local economy, noting that distributors are saving considerably on transportation costs due to proximity, with some cutting costs from ₦500,000 to less than ₦50,000. He also emphasized the growing market confidence in the durability of the company’s products, particularly the conduit pipes.
While acknowledging that not all local builders have begun sourcing from the plant, Otuh expressed optimism about increasing awareness and uptake. He urged contractors, especially those handling government projects, to support the initiative by patronizing the company, stressing that doing so would ensure that economic empowerment remains within the state.
Otuh revealed that the company’s reach is expanding beyond Ebonyi, with distributors already operating in places like Port Harcourt, and discussions ongoing with others across the country.
