The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Muanaenye Chekwube Victor, for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of his own friend.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Victor was arrested on June 26, 2025, by operatives attached to the Uli Divisional Headquarters. The suspect, alongside his gang members, allegedly abducted his friend and collected a ransom of ₦5.3 million, paid in dollar equivalent, before releasing the victim.
Police investigations revealed that Victor lured the victim under the guise of visiting another friend, only to deliver him into the hands of the criminal gang. In a twisted effort to avoid suspicion, Victor also pretended to be a victim of the abduction.
“The suspect, during interrogation, confessed to having planned the kidnapping plot by luring his friend to escort him,” Ikenga stated.
Victor is reportedly cooperating with authorities, providing key information to help track down his accomplices who remain at large.
The Command assured the public of its ongoing commitment to ensuring safety and order in the state, and confirmed that Victor will be prosecuted once the investigation is concluded.
