Four people have been confirmed dead following a fatal road accident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Amorji community, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
The crash, which happened around 5:00 a.m., involved a truck transporting goods to Umuahia and left eight other passengers seriously injured. Eyewitness accounts suggest the accident may have been caused by brake failure, while others pointed to poor visibility as a possible factor.
Emergency responders from the Abia State Emergency Medical Service arrived at the scene shortly after receiving alerts from residents and promptly evacuated the victims to the hospital.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Abia State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ngozi Ezeoma, said the truck was carrying twelve passengers — eleven males and one female. According to Ezeoma, all four deceased victims were male, while the injured — seven males and one female — are currently receiving medical attention.
