  • Governor Peter Mbah’s Move to APC Confirmed, Set to Join Ruling Party Next Week

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State is now confirmed to be leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a decisive political shift that has been the subject of speculation for weeks. Party officials in Abuja have officially verified that Mbah’s defection will take place next week, solidifying what many view as one of the most significant realignments in South-East politics ahead of the 2027 elections.

The confirmation came from the APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and the Deputy National Chairman (South-East), Chief Emma Eneukwu, during the inauguration of the party’s newly appointed Enugu State caretaker committee at the APC national secretariat. The committee, led by former state chairman Dr. Ben Nwoye, was formally sworn in amid growing anticipation over Mbah’s next political move.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration, Nwoye told reporters that Governor Mbah would officially join the APC with his appointees at a public event in Enugu next week. He emphasized that the governor’s entry into the ruling party would significantly strengthen the APC’s structure in Enugu State and bolster its influence across the South-East.

Nwoye explained that the caretaker committee had been tasked with reconciling members, mobilizing grassroots support, and preparing for upcoming electoral contests in the state.

For the APC, Mbah’s defection represents a major political gain in a region long dominated by the PDP and increasingly influenced by the Labour Party. Party leaders believe his move could reshape alliances and power dynamics ahead of the next general elections.
