  • Former Enugu Governor Sullivan Chime Defends Peter Mbah’s Defection to APC as Political Realignment, Not Betrayal

Former Governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, has weighed in on the recent defection of Governor Peter Mbah to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as an act of political realignment rather than betrayal.

In a post shared on his social media page on Tuesday, Chime stated that political transitions are often driven by evolving visions and realities, not disloyalty. “Political realignment is not betrayal; it is the courage to follow vision when old paths can no longer carry the dream,” he wrote.

Chime, who governed Enugu State from 2007 to 2015, himself left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC in 2016, shortly after completing his second term. At the time, he had described the PDP as “a dead party,” citing deep internal divisions and leadership crises as reasons for his departure.

Governor Mbah’s defection marks yet another significant shift in Enugu’s political landscape, where several high-profile politicians have recently crossed over to the ruling APC. Among them are former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, members of the National and State Assemblies, former PDP executives, local government chairmen, and members of the State Executive Council.
