The newly inaugurated Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has directed all political appointees from his first administration to vacate their positions immediately. The directive serves as a formal transitional step as the Governor prepares to constitute a new cabinet for his second term in office.
The order, issued just 24 hours after his swearing-in ceremony, mandates all affected officials to conclude handover processes to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior career civil servants within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. According to a statement signed by Nwabufo Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the deadline for these handovers was set for the close of business on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
In tandem with the dissolution, Governor Soludo has summoned all outgoing first-term cabinet members to a final consultative meeting. The session is scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2026, at the ANSEC Chambers in the Government House, Awka.
The administrative reset follows a high-profile inauguration ceremony held Tuesday at the Alex Ekwueme Square. Soludo, alongside Deputy Governor Onyeka Ibezim, officially commenced a new four-year mandate following their victory in the November 8, 2025, governorship election.
During his inaugural address, the Governor focused heavily on the restoration of regional stability. He declared a definitive end to the “sit-at-home” protests that had previously hampered local commerce. Soludo noted that schools, markets, and public services have fully resumed operations, positioning Anambra as one of the most secure states in the federation.
The inauguration was attended by an array of notable figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, and former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku.
