The Enugu State Police Command has announced the detention of three suspects following a series of coordinated crime prevention operations. During the exercise, security operatives recovered a locally fabricated firearm, live ammunition, and a tricycle used in suspected criminal activities.
In a statement released Thursday, Command Spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe detailed two separate interceptions that occurred on March 15. The first took place at approximately 9:00 a.m. along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. Operatives on routine patrol intercepted an unregistered tricycle carrying two men, identified as 26-year-old Ugochukwu Samuel and 26-year-old Kevin Kosichukwu. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed a locally fabricated double-barrelled pistol, leading to the immediate detention of the suspects and the impounding of the tricycle.
Later that morning, at 10:30 a.m., a second team conducting stop-and-search duties along Nsukka Road in Orba intercepted a motorcycle with two passengers. Upon spotting the police, one of the individuals fled into the nearby bush. The rider, 17-year-old Chinedu Harrison, was apprehended at the scene. Police recovered six rounds of 9mm live ammunition from the suspect.
During preliminary interrogation, the teenager reportedly confessed to being a member of an undisclosed cult group and provided investigators with additional information regarding his accomplices.
Police Commissioner Mamman Giwa commended the officers for their proactive approach to policing and directed personnel to maintain the current momentum in the fight against crime. He assured the public that the suspects would be arraigned in court following the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect and urged residents to continue supporting the command with credible and actionable information to ensure state-wide security.
