The Enugu State Government has taken a significant step toward economic transformation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lion Business Park Limited to develop a world-class industrial and commercial hub within the Enugu Industrial Park Free Trade Zone. This strategic initiative aims to elevate the state’s GDP from 4.4 billion to 30 billion, marking a major milestone in Governor Peter Mbah’s economic development agenda.
Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the Government House in Enugu, Governor Mbah emphasized that the project would harness the benefits of operating within a Free Trade Zone to attract foreign direct investment. He highlighted its potential to drive human capital development, foster innovation and technological advancement, and create employment opportunities, ultimately contributing to shared economic prosperity for Enugu State, the South-East region, and Nigeria as a whole.
The governor reiterated that the industrial hub aligns with his administration’s broader economic vision to position Enugu as Nigeria’s premier investment destination. He stressed that the state’s ambitious growth targets depend on strategic partnerships like the one with Lion Business Park, underscoring the government’s commitment to providing the necessary infrastructure to ensure the project’s success.
The location of the business park was carefully selected for its strategic advantages, situated just three hours from Onne Sea Port in Rivers State, less than two hours from Asaba in Delta State, and within 25 minutes of Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu. Governor Mbah assured investors of a conducive business environment, with reliable electricity, quality road networks, and other critical infrastructure to support operations.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Lion Business Park Limited, Dr. Okechukwu Mbonu, praised Governor Mbah’s visionary leadership and the remarkable progress achieved under his administration in a short period. He expressed the company’s commitment to developing a hub that would stimulate trade, boost industrial growth, and create job opportunities for the youth, aligning with the governor’s bold economic agenda.
Dr. Mbonu called on the business community, private sector leaders, and global investors to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the park and join Enugu’s emerging economic revolution. The governor also acknowledged the support of host communities and urged continued cooperation to ensure the project’s success, reinforcing the state’s dedication to sustainable development and inclusive growth.
