Abia State Governor Alex Otti has firmly dismissed speculation about his alleged intention to leave the Labour Party (LP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling such reports as entirely false. The clarification came through a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, who attributed the rumors to misinterpretation of the governor’s recent social engagement with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Ekeoma explained that Otti’s attendance at Uzodimma’s twin daughters’ birthday celebration following a National Economic Council meeting was purely personal, with no political undertones. He suggested that the governor’s growing reputation for effective governance might be prompting unfounded political projections from various quarters.
“The governor remains fully committed to the Labour Party and is currently not engaged in any discussions about party defection,” Ekeoma stated. He emphasized Otti’s focus on delivering his development agenda for Abia, describing 2027 political calculations as premature distractions from the administration’s service mandate.
The media aide reiterated that Otti would make any future political decisions in consultation with Abia stakeholders, maintaining that the present priority remains executing transformative programs across the state. This denial comes amid heightened political activity across party lines ahead of the next election cycle.
