Nigeria’s leading carrier Air Peace has abruptly suspended all flights to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, citing deteriorating runway conditions that violate its safety protocols. The airline’s management confirmed the temporary diversion of Enugu-bound flights to Asaba Airport in a passenger advisory issued yesterday.
Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, Air Peace’s spokesperson, emphasized the carrier’s uncompromising safety stance, revealing that recurrent operational disruptions caused by the runway’s poor state necessitated the drastic measure. “We cannot prioritize convenience over passenger safety,” the statement read, while expressing hope that the suspension would prompt urgent repairs by the Federal Airports Authority.
The decision came following FAAN’s emergency runway closure. Business travelers and frequent flyers now face extended road journeys between Asaba and Enugu, with the airline acknowledging the inconvenience while maintaining its safety-first position.
The carrier has assured passengers of seamless rebooking options while closely monitoring runway conditions for potential service restoration.
