Enugu State was thrown into panic following an alleged kidnapping incident that occurred on the evening of April 30, 2025, along the Ugwuogo Nike by Opi Nsukka Expressway.
According to a tweet by an X (formerly Twitter) user @ChuksEricE, eyewitnesses claimed that more than five individuals were abducted from a mini white bus and a Toyota Sienna. The attackers were said to have ambushed the vehicles, forcing passengers to flee into the surrounding bush for safety. “As you can see, those who managed to escape that ran inside the bush are just coming out,” he wrote, accompanied by a short video from the scene.
A particularly chilling response came from another X user, Chikamso Obodoagu (@chika_mso), who claimed to have narrowly escaped the attack. “I survived this yesterday. Was right in front of the first shooter. A young Fulani guy. He just came out of the bush at [a] checkpoint and started shooting at the police first. We just narrowly escaped,” he posted.
While these firsthand accounts have stirred public concern, the Enugu State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. The Ugwuogo Nike-Opi Nsukka road has been a vital artery connecting Enugu to the northern parts of the state and beyond.
