The Anambra State Government has imposed a one-month operational sanction on Blossom Fount School in Awka for allegedly commercializing its student leadership elections, including charging pupils ₦5,000 each to contest for the position of head prefect in the primary section. Commissioner for Education Ngozi Chuma-Udeh announced the penalty on Saturday, condemning the practice as an unethical attempt to “sell the psyche of children to the highest bidder from the cradle.”
Chuma-Udeh stated the sanction aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s zero-tolerance policy for practices that undermine educational integrity. “Such actions are unacceptable under this administration,” she emphasized, adding that an investigation into the school’s broader management practices is ongoing. Findings from the probe could lead to further disciplinary measures.
The commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering ethical values in schools, warning that institutions found compromising students’ moral development would face stringent consequences.
