Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has outlined a transformative blueprint for his second term, centering on advanced infrastructure, healthcare innovation, and tourism development to solidify the state’s status as a sustainable, livable hub. Seeking re-election in November, Soludo aims to build on first-term achievements while launching flagship projects designed to redefine urban living and economic productivity.
Key initiatives include three smart cities—Awka 2.0, Next Onitsha, and the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC)—envisioned as models of eco-friendly urbanization and industrial growth. A state rail network linking commercial hubs and dualized highways will form the backbone of a revamped transport system, integrated with digital ticketing and water transit options to reduce congestion and carbon footprints.
Healthcare reforms take center stage with plans for a comprehensive Oncology Centre to address Nigeria’s cancer crisis, complemented by a telemedicine network ensuring remote communities access specialist care. “Every life must count,” Soludo emphasized, pledging world-class emergency response systems and maternal care even in rural areas.
Tourism receives a major boost through the development of natural landmarks like Ogbunike Caves and Agulu Lake into globally competitive eco-resorts, supported by luxury accommodations such as the upcoming Marriott Hotel in Awka. Cultural heritage will be leveraged for economic gains, merging tradition with modern hospitality.
Education remains a priority, with a new bursary scheme to support Anambra students statewide. Governor Soludo’s administration also touts its first-term strides in security, infrastructure, and education as foundations for these ambitious projects.
