The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Nonye Soludo, has commended the students of Saint John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, for their remarkable performance at the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Championship. In a statement issued in Awka, she described the achievement as a reflection of a well-known pattern of excellence associated with Anambra State, emphasizing that the victory reaffirms the state’s status as a breeding ground for exceptional talents.
The students of Saint John Vianney Science College emerged as the overall winners of the global tournament, defeating counterparts from both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. The competition, which was held virtually on June 19, 2025, was jointly organized by Bring It On Africa and Debate Mate UK. It was designed to promote cross-cultural dialogue and sharpen the critical thinking, oratory, and reasoning skills of participants from both countries.
In her message, Mrs. Soludo said the students’ feat was further proof that education lies at the heart of Anambra’s vision. She explained that the state continues to produce record-setters because of the opportunities created by the current administration to support excellence in education and youth development.
She specifically praised the four students who represented the school and their coach, saying they brought pride to the state and reminded the world of the deep-rooted educational values that Anambra holds dear. Mrs. Soludo also acknowledged the efforts of the management and staff of Saint John Vianney Science College, noting that their commitment to student development and exposure to international academic challenges is key to the school’s success.
She concluded by stating that the administration would continue to invest in the education sector to ensure that Anambra remains a center of excellence, where young people are empowered to lead and innovate on both national and global stages.
