Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Public Health and Nutrition by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam, during its convocation ceremony on Saturday. The university recognized her efforts in promoting healthy living across the state through her non-governmental organization, Healthy Living with Nonye.
The event also honored other prominent figures, including Lady Ada Chukwudozie (South East Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria), Igwe Alex Onyido (traditional ruler of Ogidi Kingdom), businessmen Engr. Chidozie Mbanefo and Chief Christopher Ndubuisi. Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, Acting Vice-Chancellor of COOU, described the “Ojukwu Legacy Award” as a tribute to individuals excelling in their fields and contributing to societal progress.
Governor Soludo, present at the ceremony, paid tribute to the late Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, former Anambra governor and founder of COOU, lamenting that his legacy remains undercelebrated. “Dr. Mbadinuju’s vision birthed this institution in 2000, yet Anambra has not fully honored him. We must immortalize his contributions,” he stated, pledging to rectify the oversight.
High Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, leading All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) aspirant for the Anambra South Senatorial bye-election, congratulated Mrs. Soludo and vowed to advocate for the university’s growth if elected to the National Assembly. In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Soludo reaffirmed her commitment to supporting COOU’s development, aligning with her broader mission to advance health and education in Anambra State.
