Gunmen shot dead Anambra-based lawyer Barr. Ifeanyi Iloakasi, a community leader and President General of Aguleri, alongside his client on Wednesday, shortly after they left a court session. The attack occurred at the Nanka/Agulu boundary in Orumba North Local Government Area, where assailants on motorcycles ambushed their red Toyota Camry. The client attempted to flee but was chased and killed.
Anambra State Police confirmed the incident, noting a third victim survived with injuries and is aiding investigations. Police Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu visited the scene, vowing to track down the perpetrators. Preliminary findings suggest the victims were trailed and targeted, possibly linked to Iloakasi’s recent legal victory securing the release of an accused person in a murder case at High Court II, Ekwulobia.
The lawyer’s Toyota Camry was recovered, and families identified the bodies. Authorities have launched a manhunt, deploying tactical teams to unravel the motive behind the killings, widely suspected to be a revenge-driven assassination.
