The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Ani Obinna, 21, and Okwudili Ezike, 43, for alleged involvement in cult-related activities and kidnapping in Nnewi. According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives recovered a foreign-made pistol, three live ammunition rounds, and a suspected stolen motorcycle during a raid on a criminal hideout. The suspects were apprehended after a hot chase triggered by actionable intelligence, with both confessing to membership in a secret cult and a kidnapping syndicate.
Ikenga emphasized the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, noting that the suspects provided “useful information” to aid further arrests. “We are intensifying efforts to ensure public safety and create a secure environment for businesses and residents,” he stated. The police have escalated patrols in Nnewi to disrupt remaining gang operations, vowing to sustain pressure on criminal elements across the state.
