The Anambra State Police Command has disbursed over N8 million to families of 13 officers who lost their lives in active service, including an inspector who was mistakenly shot by a fellow officer at a Police Observation Point along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway near Danaks Fuel Station.
The presentation was made by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, during a ceremony on Friday. The funds, released under the Group Life Assurance and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Family Welfare Schemes, are part of efforts to provide financial support to the families of fallen officers.
Speaking at the event, CP Orutugu expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for his continued dedication to the welfare of police personnel and their families. He urged the beneficiaries to invest the funds in ventures that would sustain the dependents left behind.
He emphasized that the gesture not only offers financial relief but also serves to motivate serving officers to remain committed to their duties, reassured that their sacrifices are recognized and valued.
During the event, the CP also received security briefings from Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers across the state and discussed new strategies to enhance public safety and order.
The session included presentations from key stakeholders, including representatives of an insurance company, officers from the Police National Housing Fund, the Pension Department, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Anietie Eyoh, who delivered a lecture on operational strategy.
CP Orutugu reassured residents of Anambra that the police force remains committed to maintaining peace and security across the state, emphasizing that officers are being equipped with the tools and morale support necessary to serve effectively.
