Police operatives from the Special Cultism Squad in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have dismantled a drug trafficking network in Isuaniocha, Awka North LGA. Acting on a tip-off, the officers raided the location in the early hours of Friday, May 30, 2025, arresting six suspects, including a female drug dealer, and seizing a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be hard drugs along with other incriminating substances.
In a statement released Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrested individuals were identified as Chinyere Onwuka, aged 32; John Kennedy Onwuka, 36; Chidiebere Onyeze, 30; Echeazu Nonso, 35; Osita Chukwu Chialuka, 21; and Nnebedum Wisdom, 25.
Reacting to the development, Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu expressed concern over the increasing rate of drug abuse among youths, describing drugs as the “oxygen” fueling criminal behavior. He reiterated the command’s commitment to intensifying advocacy efforts against illicit drugs through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), aimed at educating young people about the dangers of drug use and associated crimes.
The Commissioner confirmed that all suspects will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Awka for further investigation and prosecution.
