Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command neutralized two armed assailants during a fierce gun battle at a checkpoint in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, on Thursday evening. The attackers, who emerged from a nearby bush in large numbers, launched a surprise assault on the security post, triggering an hours-long exchange of gunfire that left one police officer dead and a security vehicle burnt.
Police spokesperson DSP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, stating that the hoodlums fled the scene after the confrontation, abandoning a Toyota Sienna vehicle. He assured the public that intensified patrols and tactical operations are underway to track down the fleeing suspects, with normalcy restored to the area.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu condemned the attack, vowing to sustain collaboration between security agencies and communities to combat criminal activities.
