Chief Henry Ikoh, former Minister of State for Science, Technology, and Innovation, has dismissed reports claiming he declared interest in contesting Abia State’s 2027 gubernatorial election under the All Progressives Congress (APC). The denial follows speculation stemming from a recent APC stakeholders’ meeting in his Ikwuano LGA hometown, where sources alleged he hinted at a potential bid “if the political climate permits.”
In an exclusive interview, Ikoh clarified: “I have not informed anyone of my intention to run. It’s premature for such declarations.” While acknowledging encouragement from supporters, he emphasized undergoing consultations: “I’m prayerfully engaging my family and party stakeholders before any decision.”
The rumors gained traction amid growing political activity in Abia, with Deputy House Speaker Benjamin Kalu reportedly eyeing the APC ticket. Ikoh, a three-time gubernatorial aspirant, acknowledged his capability given federal ministerial experience but stressed no formal commitment. “A former minister possesses presidential-level competence, but my focus remains on service, not ambition,” he noted.
