Renowned Nigerian comedian and actor Okechukwu Onyegbule, widely known as Okey Bakassi, has been selected to ascend the throne as the traditional ruler of Umuihuocha Obobhia Autonomous Community in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. The entertainer, who will bear the title Eze Okwe II, was chosen following extensive consultations by community leaders, who cited his integrity, accomplishments, and deep ties to the area as key factors in their decision.
A native of Imo State, Bakassi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology before transitioning to a thriving career in entertainment. Rising to prominence as a comedian and later branching into acting, he garnered a global fanbase.
His election as custodian of the community’s cultural heritage and traditions marks a return to his roots, succeeding ancestral lineage. While a coronation date remains unannounced, the event is anticipated to draw dignitaries from political, religious, and traditional spheres nationwide.
