  • Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu Dismisses Reports of 2027 Abia Governorship Ambition

The Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has categorically denied media reports claiming he has declared his intention to run for the governorship of Abia State in 2027.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabugbiogu, the Deputy Speaker’s office insisted that Kalu remains entirely focused on fulfilling his current four-year mandate representing the Bende Federal Constituency and serving Nigerians as a whole. The statement firmly requested the publishers of the alleged news to issue a retraction, asserting that the report was published without accuracy and seemingly designed to misinform the public.

“We categorically state that the report is baseless, unfounded, and lacks credibility,” the press secretary declared. “The Deputy Speaker has not made any declaration, either privately or publicly, to contest for the governorship of Abia State in 2027.”

However, the statement did hint that any future political intentions of the Deputy Speaker will be communicated at the appropriate time by his “political family.”
