In a strategic political move, House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign, urging Southeast voters to align with the ruling APC for greater regional relevance. Addressing pro-Tinubu groups in Umuahia, the Abia lawmaker positioned the President as Nigeria’s most viable reformist leader, citing unprecedented economic and political transformations achieved within two years.
Kalu revealed his early role in Tinubu’s presidential bid, stating: “I was among those who persuaded him to run. His legacy-driven governance deserves Igbo support – this is where progress lies.” The deputy speaker particularly emphasized Tinubu’s Southeast development initiatives as evidence of inclusive leadership, contrasting it with previous administrations’ marginalization of the region.
The event doubled as a mobilization platform for APC’s 2027 ambitions in Abia, with Kalu expressing confidence about the party’s gubernatorial prospects. Tinubu Mandate Support Group leader Armstrong Okoronkwo outlined grassroots campaigns to amplify the President’s achievements, while Club 17 Initiative’s Prince George Nnanna reported completion of peace marshals deployment across wards – a key component of Kalu’s “Peace in Southeast Project.”
