Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has authorized the release of ₦290.8 million to settle gratuities and pension benefits for 37 public servants who retired in February 2025. This follows a similar payment in January 2025, showing the governor’s commitment to ensuring timely entitlements for retirees.
The disbursement aligns with Mbah’s pledge to eliminate delays in post-service benefits, aiming to enhance retirees’ living standards, boost their economic participation, and reinforce trust in the state’s public service system. “Retirees deserve dignity and financial security after years of service,” the government stated, noting the move supports broader economic stability.
In parallel, the state has launched a verification exercise for civil servants who retired between 2010 and 2024, targeting the clearance of historic gratuity arrears. The initiative seeks to resolve long-standing gaps in pension payments, addressing systemic inefficiencies inherited by the current administration.
