The Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has begun onboarding sessions for judges and judicial staff as part of its transition to a fully digital and automated court system. The move marks a major step in the state’s broader efforts to reform the justice delivery system through technology.
According to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, the onboarding marks a consolidation phase aimed at aligning past efforts with Governor Mbah’s vision of a digitized judiciary. He described the initiative as a cornerstone of the administration’s drive for improved efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in legal processes.
Under the new system, lawyers will be able to file cases electronically and receive digital copies of originating processes through an e-filing platform. Judges will also benefit from a centralized case management system, which includes the ability to refer cases to the Multi-Door Courthouse for mediation or arbitration. In addition, the official websites of the Enugu State Judiciary and Ministry of Justice now provide public access to legal resources and state laws.
The digital platform is expected to drastically cut processing time, reduce paperwork, and increase access to legal information for the public. It also aims to improve accountability within the judiciary and enhance public trust in the justice system.
