The Enugu State House of Assembly has demanded urgent resolution of persistent dropped calls and subpar telecom services, threatening to summon major providers—MTN, Globacom, Airtel, and 9Mobile—to justify why subscribers should not receive refunds for disrupted services. During Tuesday’s plenary, lawmaker Harrison Ogara (Igbo-Eze South) highlighted data showing Nigeria’s 219 million active telecom users, including millions in Enugu, endure frequent call drops that drain credits mid-conversation. Ogara condemned the “economic injustice” of charging for undelivered services, accusing providers of prioritizing profits over quality.
The Assembly deferred immediate action, instead forming a three-member committee to refine the motion’s demands, including potential refund mechanisms and stricter service compliance. The panel must report by May 6, 2025, for further legislative steps. Ogara criticized operators for ignoring service standards despite tariff hikes, citing “hundreds of millions” lost by Enugu residents.
