The Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area in Enugu State, Dr. Michael Uche Ogalla, has awarded a postgraduate scholarship to Abugu Jude Obinna, a 25-year-old First Class graduate of Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
Abugu, who is currently serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), emerged as the best graduating student in his department for the 2022/2023 academic session. He was received by Dr. Ogalla at the council secretariat, accompanied by the Special Adviser to the Chairman on Diaspora Matters, Onu Cyril Chinedu.
Speaking during the visit, Abugu expressed gratitude to the council chairman for personally attending his convocation and for his unwavering support for education. He praised Dr. Ogalla as a youth-focused leader with a deep commitment to academic empowerment.
In response, Dr. Ogalla commended Abugu’s exceptional academic performance, describing him as a pride to Igbo-Eze North. He announced the full sponsorship of Abugu’s Master’s degree programme, pledging continued support for outstanding students from the local government.
“Your achievement is a testament to hard work and resilience, and it has brought honour to our local government. We are proud of you, and we are committed to helping brilliant minds like yours achieve even greater academic goals,” Dr. Ogalla said.
Abugu, who aspires to a career in academia, said the scholarship was a significant boost to his dreams. He recounted the personal struggles he faced during his undergraduate studies, especially the loss of his mother in his first year, which affected his early academic performance.
Despite those challenges, Abugu said he remained focused, drawing strength from his father and other relatives who supported him through difficult times. He promised to make the most of the opportunity given to him.
“This scholarship is more than financial aid; it is a validation of my journey and motivation to keep striving,” he said.
