The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 228 suspects over two months for crimes spanning kidnapping, murder, armed robbery, cultism, and vandalism, rescuing 33 abducted victims and recovering 44 firearms, ammunition, and 20 vehicles. Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa disclosed the figures during a press briefing Thursday, underscoring intensified efforts to safeguard residents and investors in the state.
Among the arrests was 26-year-old Oluchi Odoh, who allegedly murdered her 23-year-old sister, Chinelo Odoh, with an axe while she slept on April 2, 2025. Odoh also attacked her mother and a 7-year-old nephew, who survived with medical treatment. “The suspect confessed, was charged to court, and remanded in custody,” Giwa stated. In another case, operatives rescued a 4-year-old girl stolen by her family’s neighbor, Esther Adejo, 55, in Nsukka LGA. Adejo and accomplice Onyinye Benjamin, 62, were tracked to Edo and Abia states, respectively, and charged after confessing to the March 15 abduction.
Giwa outlined the arrests: 33 kidnapping suspects, 12 murder suspects, 6 firearms offenders, 5 rape suspects, 42 armed robbery suspects, 44 cultists, and 149 theft/vandalism suspects. He credited intelligence-led operations and community cooperation for the breakthroughs, urging residents to remain vigilant and report crimes promptly. “These recoveries and arrests reflect our unwavering commitment to rooting out criminal elements and maintaining peace,” Giwa affirmed, vowing sustained pressure on networks undermining security in the state.
