Veteran striker Godwin Obaje set the tone with a first-half brace, netting goals in the 10th and 15th minutes at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
Despite Katsina United’s aggressive start to the second half, Rangers’ Technical Adviser Fidelis Ilechukwu’s tactical substitutions proved decisive. Midfielder Saviour Isaac extended the lead in the 78th minute, followed by substitute Chidera Igwilo sealing the rout with a 90th-minute strike.
Post-match, Ilechukwu lamented the defending champions’ eighth-place standing (52 points) in the 20-team league, attributing their underwhelming season to financial constraints. “I appeal to the state government to support us adequately. As a top-tier coach, I’m dissatisfied with our position,” he stated, underscoring the need for investment to reclaim the team’s competitive edge.
