The Enugu State Government has announced a major road shutdown scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2025, in preparation for the Enugu International Marathon, a full 42km event that will welcome thousands of athletes, including international participants. According to a public service announcement from the Enugu State Ministry of Transport, all affected roads will be completely closed to vehicular movement between 6:00 AM and 12:00 Noon on the day of the event. The road closures are part of traffic control and safety measures to ensure a smooth and secure marathon experience.

The areas affected include key sections of the Enugu metropolis such as Okpara Avenue, Kingsway Road, Ziks Avenue, Chime Avenue, Bisala Road, and Ike Ekweremadu Drive. Other major areas impacted include the roads around Shoprite, Radio Nigeria Junction, Coal Camp, UNEC, Spar Junction, EFCC Road, All Saints, Nza Street, New Haven, and Government House. There will be no vehicle movement allowed during this period within the listed zones. The Ministry has recommended several alternate routes to help residents and commuters navigate the city during the marathon, including access through Gariki, Uwani, Achara Layout, Trans Ekulu, Abakpa, Maryland, Emene, and Artisan corridors.

Motorists are strongly advised to plan their journeys ahead of time, avoid the affected zones, and cooperate with law enforcement and traffic officers on duty. The Ministry of Transport, under the leadership of Honourable Commissioner Dr. Obi Ozor, extends its appreciation to all Enugu residents for their understanding and support. Citizens are encouraged to follow official channels of the Enugu State Government, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Ministry of Transport for real-time traffic updates and event coverage.
