The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has shut down an illegal organization, the Community Crime Prevention Initiative of Nigeria (CCPIN), in Aba, Abia State, for impersonating the agency and deceiving the public. Operatives raided the group’s office at No. 214 Aba-Owerri Road on Wednesday, arresting its operator, Amb. Dr. Onwuka K. Okorie, during a joint operation with law enforcement.
FCCPC Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, disclosed that CCPIN falsely claimed affiliation with the Commission, issuing unauthorized public notices about joint surveillance operations and soliciting consumer complaints through unofficial channels. The group allegedly used forged FCCPC logos, documents, and enforcement materials recovered during the raid.
Ijagwu clarified that the FCCPC does not authorize or partner with NGOs, private entities, or individuals for enforcement activities. Okorie is currently detained at the World Bank Police Station in Aba, pending prosecution.
