Four siblings in Ogidi Community, Anambra State, are feared dead from suspected food poisoning, while their mother remains in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital. The incident, which occurred Wednesday in Idemili North Local Council, has prompted a police investigation and forensic analysis of the meal consumed by the family.
Anambra State Police Command spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the tragedy, stating that officers recovered the children’s bodies and deposited them at a morgue for autopsy. “The mother, who also ate the food, is receiving intensive care,” Ikenga added. Samples of the suspected meal have been sent for forensic testing to determine the cause of the poisoning.
Police Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu expressed shock over the incident, extending condolences to the family and emphasizing the importance of the surviving mother’s testimony. “No stone will be left unturned in uncovering the truth,” he vowed, as investigators interview neighbors and review evidence.
Authorities have yet to disclose the children’s ages or identities, but confirmed that the mother’s critical condition delays her formal statement.
