Vows to Harness State’s Potential, Calls for Unity Ahead of Polls
Awka, Anambra State – Former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), George Moghalu, has declared his readiness to challenge and defeat incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.
Moghalu emerged as the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate after securing an overwhelming 573 votes in the party’s primary election held on Saturday in Awka. His sole opponent, John Nwosu, polled only 19 votes. The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Addressing supporters after his victory, Moghalu expressed confidence in his ability to unseat Soludo, citing his extensive experience in public service and politics.
“I am ready for the challenge ahead,”he declared. “With my background in governance and leadership, I have the capacity to defeat the incumbent governor and bring transformative leadership to Anambra.”
Moghalu extended an olive branch to his opponent, urging Nwosu to join forces with him in the mission to reclaim Anambra for the Labour Party.
“We must unite to sell the LP’s vision across every community in Anambra,”he said. “This state is blessed with immense human and natural resources, but what we lack is visionary leadership. Together, we can change that narrative.”
He also emphasized the growing influence of the Labour Party, calling on members to mobilize support ahead of the election.
“The LP is a force to reckon with, and with collective effort, we can give Anambra the progressive governance it deserves,” he added.
He further pledged to run an inclusive campaign focused on grassroots mobilization, promising to restore confidence in the party and present a viable alternative to the current administration.
As the race heats up, political analysts are keenly watching whether the Labour Party can mount a strong challenge against Soludo’s All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in what promises to be a fiercely contested election.
