Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has formally declared his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. The Governor clarified that his position is firm and that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), does not intend to field a presidential candidate in the upcoming cycle.
Speaking during a television interview in the state capital, Awka, shortly after his second-term inauguration, Soludo described the President as a trusted ally and a personal friend. He advised other potential presidential aspirants to reconsider their ambitions, suggesting that the current political landscape favors continuity.
“Tinubu is my friend, and I want him to win a second term. I am unapologetic about that,” Soludo stated. He emphasized that this stance is consistent with APGA’s recent political trajectory. In the 2023 general elections, the party similarly declined to present a presidential flagbearer, choosing instead to maintain a strategic relationship with the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national level.
Governor Soludo dismissed claims that his endorsement constitutes anti-party activity. Instead, he framed the decision as a “strategic collaboration” designed to foster national development and secure federal support for Anambra State. He noted that since President Tinubu assumed office in 2023, the federal government has remained a supportive partner in the state’s infrastructural and security initiatives.
The Governor further explained that APGA’s primary focus will remain on consolidating its influence within the South East region and at the state level. By backing a candidate they believe is capable of national delivery, Soludo argued the party is prioritizing governance over partisan competition.
