Amid recent improvements in security, Amesi community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State was thrown into chaos early Friday morning as armed assailants launched a deadly attack. The hoodlums destroyed the town hall, burnt three vehicles and two motorcycles, and killed one person during the violent invasion.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers fired sporadically, sending residents fleeing in panic. This marks the first major security breach in the state following Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s intensified security measures.
The identity of the deceased victim remains undisclosed as investigations continue. APC governorship aspirant Valentine Ozigbo, who visited the scene, appealed for urgent government intervention, stating, “Anambra is still bleeding. Our people live in fear—we need action, not just words.”
A traumatized resident, speaking anonymously, expressed frustration: “We deserve to live without fear. We need leaders who will truly protect us, not just manage our suffering.”
The attack has raised fresh concerns about lingering insecurity despite government efforts. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement as security operatives work to track down the perpetrators.
