Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has inaugurated the Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu Mother and Child Centre in Awo-Omamma, a state-of-the-art facility aimed at curbing maternal and child mortality through improved healthcare access. Funded under President Bola Tinubu’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative, the 100-bed center underscores collaborative efforts between federal and state governments to address healthcare gaps in the region.
Governor Uzodimma emphasized the facility’s role in expanding Imo’s healthcare network, which includes mobile rural clinics, newly built general hospitals, and revitalized teaching hospitals. “This center will be fully staffed, equipped, and protected to serve its purpose: saving lives,” he pledged, urging residents to safeguard the facility as a community asset.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Vice President’s wife Hajia Nana Shettima, hailed the project as a milestone in promoting maternal and child health. “This center reflects our commitment to ensuring safer childbirths and healthier futures for children,” she stated, calling on communities to maximize its benefits.
Imo’s First Lady, Chioma Uzodimma, praised the initiative for aligning with Governor Uzodimma’s healthcare reforms, including the revival of the Imo State University Teaching Hospital in Orlu. “This facility is a lifeline for mothers and children, complementing our efforts to eliminate preventable deaths,” she noted.
Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulere, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, highlighted the center’s advanced medical resources and pledged continued federal-state collaboration to meet healthcare targets.
