The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will reconduct the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 candidates impacted by technical failures across 157 centers in Lagos State and parts of the South-East. The re-examination, scheduled to begin on Friday, May 16, 2025, follows widespread complaints over errors traced to “omissions in examination items” during the initial test. Affected candidates will receive notifications via SMS, email, phone calls, and updates to their JAMB profiles, with instructions to reprint exam slips for revised schedules.
JAMB confirmed the glitches disproportionately affected the Lagos operational zone (65 centers, 206,610 candidates) and the Owerri zone (92 centers, 173,387 candidates), where incomplete or malfunctioning content disrupted exams. The board acknowledged public outcry over the integrity of the 2025 UTME, prompting the unprecedented decision to retest impacted students.
To avoid clashes with ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), JAMB collaborated with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to adjust timetables. Agricultural Science exams originally set for Friday were rescheduled to Saturday for dual participants, though JAMB emphasized most retakes would occur Saturday to minimize overlap. The board reassured candidates that curriculum alignment between UTME and WASSCE would mitigate academic disruption, despite an additional 10-mark component in the UTME’s English paper.
JAMB urged affected candidates to stay updated via official channels and reiterated its commitment to resolving the issue “swiftly and transparently.”
