A faction of the Labour Party (LP) led by Abayomi Arabambi has announced plans to expel 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, accusing them of destabilizing the party. Arabambi, the faction’s publicity secretary, disclosed this during an interview with TVC, asserting that the party would soon convene a national convention to address its leadership crisis and oust suspended members.
“These individuals are driven by personal gain, not the party’s interests. We will not let them destroy Labour Party,” Arabambi stated, dismissing claims that Julius Abure was ousted as National Chairman by the Supreme Court. He insisted Abure remains the legitimate leader and that a convention would formalize the expulsion of Obi, Otti, and others currently under suspension.
The threat follows the LP’s indefinite suspension of Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, and four others on Wednesday over alleged anti-party activities. A statement by National Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim confirmed the sanctions against Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowunmi, barring them from representing the party.
Arabambi framed the convention as the sole solution to restore unity, vowing to purge “selfish elements” undermining the LP.
