A Nigerian Army soldier deployed with Operation Udoka was fatally attacked by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), after leaving his duty post without authorization to attend a party in Anambra State. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 18 near the Forward Operating Base in Uli.
Reports indicate the soldier had secretly exited the military base to attend a party advertised as a “Ladies’ Jamboree,” which featured adult entertainment. Contrary to protocol, he wore his military camouflage uniform to the event. His absence was noted during a tactical operation, prompting a search.
A security source disclosed that the soldier was later found dead at the scene, alongside the body of an infant. His firearm was recovered and returned to military custody. “Troops discovered his lifeless body at a nearby hotel where the party took place. He was ambushed and shot by suspected IPOB/ Eastern Security Network (ESN) operatives,” the source stated.
Operation Udoka, a Defense Headquarters-led initiative tasked with restoring security in the Southeast, has yet to officially comment. Efforts to reach Maj. Gen. Marcus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, were unsuccessful as his phone remained switched off.
