Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 32 individuals by unknown gunmen in Imo State, describing the attack as “another level of embarrassing barbarism” and a reflection of Nigeria’s ongoing security crisis.
In a statement posted on X, Obi expressed deep sorrow over the massacre, calling it a “poignant reminder of our collective failure as a nation.” He stressed that the continuous desecration of human life has dangerously normalized violence and horror in Nigerian society. Obi urged the federal government to urgently identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators of the attack.
“This inhuman act must be condemned by all,” he said. “Such a level of violence and criminality must not continue to have a place in our nation. The government must rise up to its duty of protecting lives and property. Nigerians cannot continue to live in fear.”
He offered condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the repose of their souls.
Meanwhile, in a separate engagement demonstrating his commitment to youth empowerment and economic growth, Obi extended financial support to five young entrepreneurs in Kaduna State during the SMES HUB Programme. Organized by Hassan Adamu, the exhibition showcased the entrepreneurial talents of young Nigerians.
Represented by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Obi awarded support to five outstanding participants. First place went to Ummu Kurthum of Qrusty’s Dishes & Pastries. She was followed by Aminu Ahmed Nu’uman of Sufac Food Industry and Joel Tirom Muah of Pherobies & Perfumes. Consolation prizes were also given to Moses Ojo of MO Footwears & Appeals and Hajara Jafar Muhammad of Gimbiya Integrated Firm.
