Seplat East Onshore Limited, a subsidiary of Seplat Energy Plc, has reaffirmed its commitment to combating vision impairment through its flagship ‘Eye Can See’ initiative. At the 2025 edition of the NNPC/Seplat Joint Venture healthcare program in Owerri, the company revealed it has provided free eye care to over 220,084 patients since 2012, performing 726 sight-restoring surgeries and distributing 12,307 prescription glasses.
Managing Director Engr. Ibi Adaitotio, represented by East Assets Manager Emmanuel Otokhine, emphasized that the program goes beyond vision care by screening for diabetes and hypertension while training local healthcare workers. “Our interventions are strategic investments aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in health, education and economic empowerment,” Adaitotio stated.
The energy firm positions its corporate social responsibility as compliance with the Petroleum Industry Act’s community development mandates. “Through Host Community Development Trusts, we’ve invested billions in healthcare, education and infrastructure to transform Niger Delta communities into true development partners,” Adaitotio added, noting the program’s role in Seplat’s broader strategy to improve living standards in its operational areas.
The 2025 initiative continues Seplat’s 13-year legacy of addressing critical healthcare gaps, with current efforts focusing on sustainable interventions that build local capacity alongside immediate medical relief. Company executives confirm plans to expand the program’s reach, leveraging partnerships to amplify impact across more underserved communities.
