The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that seven people lost their lives in a fatal collision involving a commercial bus and an articulated vehicle in Ebonyi State. The accident occurred Sunday evening along the Nwafia Oga axis of Onueke in Ezza South Local Government Area.
Ebonyi FRSC Sector Commander Henry Igwe disclosed to journalists on Monday that the 7:30 p.m. crash involved a Toyota bus (Registration Number UWN 429 ZY) and a truck (XW 294 ENU). Preliminary investigations indicate speeding as the primary cause of the collision.
The crash claimed the lives of four men and three women, while two female passengers sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. Eleven other passengers, including two men, eight women and one child, miraculously escaped unharmed from the wreckage.
“The FRSC emergency team responded promptly to the scene,” Commander Igwe stated. “We’re conducting full investigations while reiterating our warning to all motorists: obey speed limits and traffic signs. Only the living complete journeys.”
This latest incident brings renewed attention to road safety challenges along Ebonyi’s transport corridors, with the FRSC emphasizing the need for stricter compliance with traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies. The corps has launched a fresh advocacy campaign targeting commercial drivers in the state, focusing on speed management and vehicle maintenance.
