The Southeast geopolitical zone has been identified as a vital component for the continuity of President Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, according to Mrs. Hanmo Akume, the Board Chairperson of Grassroots Advocacy for Tinubu (GAT) and wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Speaking at the inauguration of the GAT Southeast zonal structure in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Akume described the event as a strategic move to strengthen grassroots mobilisation in support of the President’s political future.
The inauguration ceremony drew significant participation from senior government officials, party leaders, and representatives of women and youth groups from across the entire Southeast zone. Mrs. Akume specifically commended the governors of Ebonyi, Imo, and Enugu States for their demonstrated support, noting that their involvement underscored the region’s commitment to national development and inclusion. She stressed that GAT’s presence in the Southeast is intended to be more than symbolic, focusing on building sustainable structures at the state, local government, and ward levels to deepen democratic participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Representing Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Stanley Emegha, asserted that Ebonyi remains a stronghold for the APC, citing the party’s control of all elective positions in the state. He attributed this dominance to the performance of Governor Nwifuru and assured the gathering that the state would deliver overwhelming support for President Tinubu in 2027. He further claimed that opposition parties in the state had collapsed into the APC, suggesting that the party’s mobilisation efforts would extend beyond the Southeast to support the President nationally.
Similarly, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, represented by the Imo State NYO Coordinator, Emmanuel Chukwudi, maintained that the APC remains the dominant political force in Imo State and the Southeast. He pointed to the cordial relationship between the state and federal governments as evidence of effective governance, urging party members to remain confident. According to him, the combined achievements of President Tinubu and the Imo State Government have reinforced public trust in the APC, eliminating room for opposition in the state.
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Ngozi Eni, also reaffirmed Enugu State’s commitment to the Tinubu 2027 project. Governor Mbah commended the grassroots focus of the advocacy group and the essential role of women in political mobilisation, declaring that there was “no vacancy” in Aso Rock and the Government House of Enugu State in 2027, while assuring the newly inaugurated GAT executives of the state government’s full support.
Prof. Ochugudu Ipuele, the National Coordinator of GAT, explained that the group was established specifically to promote the vision and documented achievements of President Tinubu through effective community-level engagement. He highlighted several key reforms of the administration, including the establishment of regional development commissions, the student loan scheme, and the reported improvement in the fiscal capacity of states, which he said has positively impacted salary payments and service delivery nationwide. Professor Ipuele called on Nigerians to support the continuity of the Tinubu administration beyond 2027, arguing that sustained reforms are essential for consolidating national unity and achieving economic stability.
Concluding the event, Barrister Patrick Anayo Mbam, the Ebonyi State Coordinator of GAT, expressed gratitude for the successful inauguration and pledged extensive mobilisation across all communities in the state to secure victory for President Tinubu, Governor Nwifuru, and all APC candidates in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The occasion was capped by the formal inauguration of GAT’s Southeast zonal executives and the presentation of awards of excellence to Governors Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Hope Uzodimma, and Peter Mbah, in recognition of their leadership and commitment to grassroots mobilisation efforts.
