The Obidient Movement has officially denied reports suggesting that Peter Obi has been offered the position of running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a coalition being formed for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communication & Media, the movement described the reports as false and baseless, clarifying that while discussions around a possible coalition are ongoing, no such offer has been made or accepted.
“The Obidient Movement has been inundated with calls from our members at home and abroad following a media publication claiming that our principal, Peter Obi, has been offered a running mate position. Even though the publication is imaginary, we find it necessary to address it to avoid public misconception,” the statement read.
Kazaure emphasized that Peter Obi’s focus remains on building a united front to tackle the real issues facing Nigerians—bad governance, corruption, poverty, poor healthcare, and the alarming number of out-of-school children.
“We want a politics that is progressive, that serves the people—not politics for the sake of grabbing power. At this point in time, Mr. Peter Obi remains in the Labour Party. If this ever changes, he will make that announcement himself,” the statement concluded.
