A deadly clash stemming from a leadership tussle in Ndiagu Amagu Ikwo, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has left one person dead, two injured, and several others missing. The victim, Nwoyika Ugbaloke, was fatally shot during an attack by armed assailants, while Thomas Ngaragu sustained injuries.
The violence erupted following a controversial N40,000 levy imposed on adult natives of Nduche Umuomara by a faction within the community. Tensions escalated when the same group allegedly began selling lands belonging to opposing members who rejected the levy.
Nwoyika Kingsley Emeka, son of the deceased, accused the perpetrators of terrorizing residents, marking farmlands with palm fronds, and threatening further violence unless fines are paid. He claimed the attackers enjoy protection from influential figures, including a former political officeholder suspected of sponsoring the unrest. Emeka appealed to Governor Francis Nwifuru and Commissioner of Police Adaku Uche-Anya to intervene urgently.
Ebonyi Police Public Relations Officer SP Joshua Ukandu confirmed no official report had been filed yet.
