A tragic scene was averted on Tuesday at the waterside axis of Okpulo Umuobo in Aba, Abia State, as residents rallied together to rescue a woman who attempted to take her own life by jumping into a river.
The unidentified woman, whose reasons for the attempted suicide remain unknown, was found lying silently on a pavement near the riverbank after the intervention. She did not speak or offer any explanation for her actions, further deepening the concern and mystery surrounding the incident.
Witnesses and residents quickly gathered at the scene following news of the attempt, with many speculating that she may have been overwhelmed by Nigeria’s harsh economic realities or possibly relationship troubles.
According to DSP Maureen Chinaka, spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, the incident was promptly reported to the nearest police station by Enyimba FM, a local radio station.
