Anambra State has declared total war on kidnapping and violent crimes with the launch of “Operation Udo ga chi Zero Kidnapping” – a comprehensive security initiative designed to restore public confidence and enable residents to safely return for festive periods. The operation, unveiled on Monday in Awka by Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu, brings together all security agencies in a coordinated assault on criminal elements across the state.
The police chief revealed the operation follows extensive evaluation of policing capabilities to address rising security challenges, particularly during the ongoing Easter season. “This public demonstration is to reassure our people that we’re taking proactive measures to eliminate the fear of violent crimes,” Orutugu stated during the launch attended by all security formations. The joint task force comprises the military, DSS, NSCDC, immigration, correctional services, FRSC and Anambra Vigilante Group, working in synergy with community intelligence networks.
Security forces have been directed to conduct massive raids on identified criminal hideouts while deploying armored personnel carriers for rapid response. The operation features intelligence-driven stop-and-search activities, targeted patrols and establishment of a joint security information room with dedicated emergency numbers for public alerts. Orutugu particularly acknowledged the state government and public-spirited citizens for refurbishing police operational vehicles, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to the operation’s success.
Business operators, especially hospitality providers, pledged full support during the launch as security agencies demonstrated new crime-fighting equipment. The commissioner assured residents of maximum professionalism from operatives while urging citizens to report suspicious activities through the provided hotlines: Police (07039194332), NDLEA (09136832679), NSCDC (08066769442), FRSC (122) and Vigilante (511/122). “Together, we’ll reclaim Anambra from criminals and restore our homeland’s safety,” Orutugu declared as armored vehicles rolled out for the first operational assignments.
